Post Board Final Project

Today I recited the poem "This is just to say," and here is my poster.

As the first semester comes to an end, take time to reflect on your learning and growth in this course. In a well-developed response, explain what you enjoyed most about the class, identify the project or assignment you found most engaging, and discuss which aspect of the course you connected with the most (such as poetry, fiction, writing, or discussion). Finally, reflect on one area where you feel you need additional support or improvement as we move into the spring semester.

Over this year I have learned a lot. My favorite part of this class was the open discussion when reading a poem or a short story. My favorite poems were by Emily Dickson. I loved learning about her life, and how she expressed herself through her writing. Out of everything I need support for is writing more clearly, and direct.

Many holidays center around traditions. Describe one tradition that is important to you or your family and explain why it still matters (or why it no longer does).

A tradition that my family has kept for many years is the Hanukkah party. One day in Hanukkah we all go to my Bubbie's house and have a celebration, with all the family. With people coming from New Jersey. I love this tradition since I don't get to see some parts of my family that often.

How have the holidays changed as you have grown older? Compare your experiences of the holidays during childhood with how you experience them now, focusing on shifts in perspective, responsibilities, or emotional meaning.

Back when I was young I used to count down the days til the holidays, becoming more excited each day that passed. Now I didn't even realize that Hanukkah started. I still enjoy the holidays, but I have so much stuff going on in life that the holidays are now just in the back of my mind. The first day on Hanukkah which was yesterday was pretty sad. Me and my mom were sick, and could barely get through the third prayer. I was happy about my gift by to tried to show it well. I was not here yesterday. I learned that cough drops don't work the best for me.

Write about something you’ve outgrown but still miss.

Something that I have outgrown yet miss is the McDonald play ground. I used to play on it all the time, and made many friends on the go. Now I feel that is lost, I'm too tall to climb in the fort, and too old for it to be socially acceptable. The food too is also something I miss, I remember loving the tastes of the chicken nuggets, and now they just taste flavorless. Now going there is just kinda sad. I only go with friends and very rarely buy something.     We did the vocabulary test.     I used my notes to help, and remembered many definitions.

Write about something that you can't stop thinking about.

I can't stop thinking about the All-State Audition, it is in two days and I'm not ready. I have only practiced a little on the Etude, and can't fully play all my scales without mistakes. I have kind of accepted that I won't get in, I'm still going to try though. We went to get classes for next year. I learned about what classes I will take next year.

Mask

This is my mask. We presented our mask. I learned about my classmates.

Write about the best gift you have received.

The best gift that I have ever received was a lamp. My mother one day of Hanukkah gave me a lamp, then next year I got another lamp. She forgot she did the same thing last year, and when I reminded her she did, she told me it was because Hanukkah is the festival of lights. After that I expect a light creating object every year, and I'm excited to find out what it is. We did vocabulary lesson four. I learned new words.

After watching the short film Identity, write a blog post reflecting on how the masks in the film represent the pressure to fit in and the struggle to discover who you really are. Choose one moment from the film that stood out to you and explain why. Then, connect the film’s message to Langston Hughes’ poem “I, Too” and to the mask you are creating in class. What part of your identity do you want your mask to reveal?

It stood out to me by how many people had a bland red mask, since the bland red didn't really tell much about the person. The film and "I, Too" are alike since they both show the growth of ones identity, such as when in "I, Too" the speaker today sits in the dinning room, and in identity the main character discovers who they are. I want my mask to show my love of music. We read the poem "I, Too." I learned about what it means to be an American.

In “I, Too,” the speaker expresses pride in his identity and his rightful place in America. Reflect on your own life: What aspect of your cultural identity are you most proud of, and why?

I hold my pride in my Jewish identity, since it has been in my family for as long as we can look back. I have studied and come of age in J udaism, and I will continue to pass it on within my future family. To day we did a map to represent the peom "We Real Cool." I learned of a new peom called "I, Too."

In “We Real Cool,” the speakers make choices that seem exciting, bold, and rebellious, even though those choices lead to consequences. Write about a moment in your own life when you followed what looked cool or fun, only to realize afterwards that it wasn’t the smart or responsible path. What influenced your decision, and how did your perspective change later?

One time I went out with my friends down to the train tracks to mess around. We went to a few stops over the highway. Latter after walking for a bit, I stepped into some tar. It trapped my shoes, and I had to clean them out in the sink. I didn't really think much after that. We read the poem "We Real Cool." I learned about the stuff the teenagers thought were cool.

Discuss something meaningful or memorable you experienced over the break, or reflect on what you felt most thankful for during that time.

Most of the break I just rested, and messed around in Reaper, and different mic placements, and I brought my bass to the shop to get fixed up. For Thanksgiving I set the tables which everyone was impressed by my napkin folding, and props on the table, such as the fruit and flowers. We had many desserts out, and he had to surround them with boxes since a few years ago my dog ate a whole chocolate pie while we where eating. We used boxes since he is deathly afraid of boxes, and won't go anywhere near them. That was pretty much my break, I also went out with some friends, and that was all. We did vocabulary lesson 5. I learned new words like  conundrum.
